Heroine ToscaTrevant has left her gossip columnist career in London amidst strange circumstances - she specialised in royal stories and has seen something in the Palace that has caused anxious royal communications with her editor. She has decided to visit her daughter in California. Her daughter lives on a delightful island off the coast near Los Angeles where the old fashioned narrow streets remind Tosca of her beloved Cornwall.
Tosca harbour ambitions to become a crime correspondent but
her English editor is not convinced. In particular he is not very interested in
US crimes. Nothing daunted Tosca pursues a peculiar sighting in a neighbour's
garden. She is an engaging sleuth who talks nonstop in a way that flummoxes her
American hearers especially the male ones. Her pride in her Cornish heritage
leads her to use Cornish words particularly in swearing. The swear words are
wasted on most of her hearers of course! She also brews a lethal version of
mead and likes to take a jug of it with her when she visits. She finds the
thought of driving a car with a 'stick shift' very worrying though she would
lightheartedly enter into a dangerous investigation.
This is a light hearted romp with an engaging heroine. The
investigation Tosca initiates eventually achieves interesting results.

Jennifer Palmer Throughout my reading life crime
fiction has been a constant interest; I really enjoyed my 15 years as an
expatriate in the Far East, the Netherlands
& the USA
but occasionally the solace of closing my door to the outside world and sitting
reading was highly therapeutic. I now lecture to adults on historical topics
including Famous Historical Mysteries.
Jennifer/Lizzie, Thank you so much for the review. I might add that "Digging Too Deep" is a paperback as well as an ebook, and available in bookstores. Dyw genes (TTFN)
