‘The Melody Lingers On’ by Mary Higgins Clark

Published by Simon & Schuster,
14 January 20916.
ISBN: 97801-47114-855-2

Elaine Marsha Harmon known as Lane, works as assistant Interior Designer for Glady Harper. They are given the job of designing the interior of an apartment belonging to Anne Bennett, wife of Parker, a fund manager who cheated many clients out of their life savings. He disappeared 10 years ago and was believed to have committed suicide, but his body was never found.

While working for Anne, Lane meets Parker's son Eric and starts going out with him. She believes he is innocent, but FBI Agent Rudy Schell, who was on Parker's case originally suspects him of helping his father.

We then find Parker is alive and well and living on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands under a false name.

An ex-lover of Parker has been blackmailing him and, when she suspects he won’t pay her any more money she gets in touch with the FBI, but Parker moves on. He has plans to settle in Switzerland, but needs the number of the account where he has put the rest of the money. Can he reach it before the FBI close in? Can Lane really trust Eric and his mother? And why does Lane's stepfather dislike Eric so much?

This was a very good read and well written. The pieces came together like a jigsaw puzzle and the picture slowly becomes clear.

I thought it very clever of the author to make the chapters shorter and shorter as the tension builds, giving thefeeling that I wanted to turn the pages faster and faster.

I cannot believe I have not come across Mary Higgins Clark before, as I see she has written at least forty books. I shall be on the lookout for some more now.

Tricia Chappell. I have a great love of books and reading, especially crime and thrillers. I play the occasional game of golf  (when I am not reading). My great love is cruising especially to far flung places, when there are long days at sea for plenty more reading! I am really enjoying reviewing books and have found lots of great new authors.
