Donna recently attended the Jane Austen Society of North American AGM in Denver, Colorado where she signed her two Austen mysteries set in places Jane lived.
In A Jane Austen Encounter literature professors Elizabeth and Richard enjoy a second honeymoon as they fulfil a life-long dream to visit Jane Austen’s homes in England. But beware: evil lurks even in Jane Austen’s genteel world.
In A Most Singular Venture Elizabeth and Richard are exploring Jane Austen’s London, but their murderous opponent is all-too contemporary.
One of the featured speakers at the Jane Austen Society of North America AGM was
Francine Matthews, AKA Stephanie Barron,
author of the popular Jane Austen Mystery series
Stephanie spoke on "Solving the Male Mystery:
The Bennet Sisters as Detective Heroines."
Her premise was that women of the Regency time had to
become private detectives to discover who the men in their
circle really were if they were to obtain happiness.
Barron focused on the mystery language in
Pride and Prejudice, the novel chosen as the focus of the conference.
In this novel Austen uses the language of the courts: suspicion, justice, motive, offense, defense, judgment, witness, and many more. It is the women who learn the truth of
character in Austen novels. Barron closed by citing Emma as the first detective novel in the British canon and added, "But Emma herself is a horrible detective."
Coming in December 2023 Donna’s new book:
‘Going There’ by Donna Fletcher Crow
A Short Story Collection Woven Inside a
Memoir of Travel in a Troubled Time
In the summer of 2021 amidst a world-wide pandemic, Donna Fletcher Crow, her daughter-in-law, and granddaughter managed to slip through a narrow window of calm for a remarkable
journey to France and Switzerland. And much to Donna’s
surprise and delight, she was accompanied on the undertaking by characters from several of her novel series—who had adventures of their own solving mysteries that include near-murder, theft, ghosts and all manner of mayhem.
It is an account of a memorable travel experience in the real world and the fictional. It takes the reader to places physical and imaginary, and like all good books, expands our universe.
