King's Hall Kingsway, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 1RN
On 2nd September a group of authors gathered in Stoke-on-Trent for a full day literary festival with author panels running throughout the day. Brainchild of visionary librarian Claire Birkin, (see photograph far left) Tales on Trent was a really friendly event, attended by several hundred readers. As well as signing books all day long, I was thrilled to be interviewed as Guest of Honour by the lovely Donna Morfett. (See photograph right) It was gratifying to meet many fans of my protagonist Geraldine Steel, one of whom broughtthirteen of my books for me to sign. (See photograph below left)
Many of us were pleased to donate books to a gifted young girl. Having found out somechildren live without books in their homes,nine-year-old Nunu decided to take action.
Together with her grandfather, she has become a literacy champion with Stoke Reads who gift books to children in Stoke who have no books in their homes. She has created a Phone Box book library free for all, a book swap box at a Little Learners Playgroup, and a free book library bookcase in her local village hall.
In Addition to supporting Nunu's efforts with a very large donation of books, Tales on Trent also raised over £900 for local charities. The Whole day simply buzzed with excitment over books! What better way can there be to spend a Saturday?.
Leigh Russell has written twenty books in her Geraldine Steel series. The 21st titled Revenge Killing will be published 28 March 2024. Leigh launched a new cosy series in March 2023 with Barking up the Right Tree. This was followed by Barking Madin July 2023.
