· Collecting their awards, Erin Kelly and Adele Parks referenced that this was the first award win of their careers
The winners of the second ever Fingerprint Awards, the reader-chosen awards celebrating international crime and thriller writing, were announced last night (Thursday 31st August) on Capital Crime’s opening night. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, in the shadow of the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral.
The winners of six out of eight categories were voted for online by crime and thriller fans: Crime Book of the Year; Thriller Book of the Year; Historical Crime Book of the Year; Debut Book of the Year; Genre-busting Book of the Year and Audiobook of the Year.
Notable winners included Bleeding Heart Yard by Elly Griffiths for Crime Book of the Year; Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister for Thriller of the Year; The Maid by Nita Prose for Debut Book of the Year; and One Last Secret by Adele Parks, narrated by Kristen Atherton, for Audiobook of the Year.
The winners of the Publishing Campaign of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award were chosen solely by the Capital Crime Advisory Board, which is made up of people from all aspects of publishing including publishers, editors, booksellers, authors, bloggers and journalists. The Publishing Campaign of the Year was won by Viking for The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman and the Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Jane Wood, Fiction Publisher at Quercus Publishing.

With over 2,000 votes cast, the
winners saw stiff competition, with fellow shortlistees including The
Twyford Code by Janice Hallett,
The
Botanist by MW Craven, The It Girl by
Ruth Ware and
The Lost Man of Bombay by Vaseem Khan.
The announcement drew to a close the fantastic first day at Capital Crime, which saw Shari Lapena play a riotous game of ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ with Clare Mackintosh, and Dorothy Koomson and Louise Candlish discuss ‘villainous women and untrustworthy husbands’ with Lisa Howells. Thursday afternoon also saw the Future Generations Afternoon Takeover, with panels on the Next Generation of Publishing with industry professionals Amy Baxter, Christina Demosthenous, Leodora Darlington and Manpreet Grewal; and Moral Dilemmas in Modern Society, with bestselling authors Yomi Adegoke, Jack Jordan, Lia Middleton, Nicola Williams and Nadine Matheson.
