Oriana Negri was seventeen when she was found unconscious beside the dead body of Gideon Wyclerc. His daughter, Grace Wyclerc, had disappeared.
Oriana was found guilty of Gideon’s murder. She had pleaded not guilty as she stated she remembered nothing. She was sent to prison and as her parole approaches, the story is told between Anna Ledet’s point of view, (A forensic psychologist), as she interviews Oriana and tries to unravel the truth, and Oriana’s story who swears she remembers nothing.
Oriana, on parole, goes back to Eden Falls, her hometown, where the murder took place, and where she is not welcome. On these visits we get to know her intriguing, but unlikeable, family members, and her own history as she relates her story.
Question is……Is she innocent or is she lying?
This question will keep you turning those pages to find out the truth. And, just when you think everything is falling into place, down a large hole you will fall with a spellbinding twist at the end. The book is over five hundred pages long; however, it is well worth getting to that final twist.
I love Vaseem Khan’s former Crime books. He has proved himself to be one of the best crime writers of the moment.
This
is his first psychological tale and here he writes in a very different style,
but well worth a read.

Vaseem Khan was born in London in 1973. He studied finance at the London School of Economics. He first saw an elephant lumbering down the middle of the road in 1997 when he arrived in the city of Mumbai, India to work as a management consultant. This surreal sight inspired his Baby Ganesh Agency series of 'gritty cosy crime' novels. His aim with the series is to take readers on a journey to the heart of modern India. He returned to the UK in 2006 and has since worked at University College London for the Department of Security and Crime Science. Elephants are third on his list of passions, first and second being great literature and cricket, not always in that order. His first book The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra was a Times Bestseller and an Amazon Best Debut. The are five books in the series. His most recent series is Malabar House. There are five books in the series. The most recent being City of Destruction published in December 2024.
