We meet again all the residents
of the strange household of sixty-something Rina Martin. It was through his
friendship with Rina that DI McGregor regained some sense of balance following
the killing in front of him of little Cara Evans by Thomas Peel. DI McGregor
(Mac) had been unable to save her and that knowledge had almost broken him. But
now almost a year on, Mac has rebuilt his life and has even entered into a
relationship with CSI Mirian Hastings. But his new found equilibrium is about
to be tested as he is forced to
confront his past.
And not only is Mac facing past demons, young George is now fourteen and he has also found solace with his friendship with Rina Martin, and a new friend at the children’s home, Ursula, but George is also to be tested, and Mac caught up chasing a child killer - may not be there to help him.
This is a satisfying read in that it ties up many threads from previous books, although the information is there to provide a new reader to this series with an equally rewarding read.

Jane
Adams was born in Leicestershire,
where she still lives. She has a degree in Sociology, and has held a variety of
jobs including lead vocalist in a folk-rock band. She enjoys pen and ink
drawing, martial arts and her ambition is to travel the length of the Silk Road by motorbike. Her first book, The Greenway, was shortlisted for the
CWA John Creasey Award in 1995 and for the Author's Club Best First Novel
Award. Jane writes several series. Her
first series featured Mike Croft. Several books featuring DS Ray Flowers. Seven
titles featuring blind Naoimi Blake, and her latest series featuring Rina
Martin. Cause of Death is the sixth
in the series. Jane has also written three standalone novels. She is married
with two children.
