‘Point of Control’ by L.J. Sellers

Published by Thomas & Mercer,
19 January 2016.
ISBN: 9781517135362

FBI agent Andra Bailey is well aware that her sociopathic personality is a mixed blessing. It makes her outstanding at her job but means her personal life is often empty. Most of the time Bailey has learned to maintain the behaviour she knows will elicit a positive response but it is always a balancing act to keep this up.

Bailey is detailed to investigate the disappearance of two high ranking scientists, both of whom are metallurgists involved in cutting-edge research. One of the scientists is found dead in suspicious circumstances soon after his disappearance. Bailey soon realises that their disappearance is linked to the crisis in the electronics industry caused by the shortage of a rare metal that is essential to the manufacture of cell phones and other mobile internet devices. As she investigates, Bailey begins to suspect that the disappearances are, in some way, connected with the desire of many Government agencies to ensure that they can hack every cell phone and other internet device. Another scientist disappears and this time there can be no doubt she was abducted because her kidnapping was witnessed by her son, Garrett. Although he is some years her junior, Bailey is attracted to Garrett and the feeling is mutual. As the investigation continues, Bailey has to walk a tight-rope between ruthless and unidentified enemies, both electronics tycoons and Government agents and, for the first time, her personal life has become entangled with her job.

Point of Control is an action-packed, hard-hitting book with a Conspiracy Theory that is all too believable. This is the first novel featuring Andra Bailey. She is beautifully portrayed, revealing a complex, highly intelligent and intriguing protagonist, who is only too aware of her flaws. Point of Control is a fascinating read.
